Career Choice

Careers are drastically shifting. The four big reasons are:
Industry 4.0 – a new era of doing things differently is going to dominate the world in which your teenager grows into a young adult.
World of Opportunities – several new opportunities are coming up while the traditional ones are going into the background. Is you child surfing the wave or stuck with traditional frameworks?
Single Qualification – the thought of a single qualification sufficing through a lifetime is no longer valid. This is replaced with Learnability as a driving force.
Education – is totally democratised and available to all. There is no knowledge that few privileged are only privy to. Moving with the times is the most crucial aspect to thrive.

Parents therefore need to come out of the good school – good college – good job mindset and start preparing their children for the new world in which they will have to thrive. Careers choice cannot be based on Subject of Interest or the wishes of individuals. It needs to be based on Capability and Interest of the individual and then Aligned to the opportunities available.
Any parent cannot be aware of the plethora of choices available. They need to gather deeper understanding and information.

Resource 1: Story of Life – A Yancha Simulation

This unique simulation enables learners identify and assess self in a fun filled, iterative manner. The simulation walks the individual over these seven themes and then helps identify if they could make the right choices and reach full potential.

Resource 2: Career Choice – Part A

The two-step career choice focuses on the Personality and Behavioural aspects to identify the right path. A career is no more a destination, it’s a journey that the teenager needs to define and walk on.
The Part A is based on the Holland’s Theory of Career Choice. Individuals can be classified into one of the six personality types:

• Realistic
• Investigative
• Artistic
• Social
• Enterprising
• Conventional

Resource 3: Career Choice – Part B

Resource 4 – Discussion With Yancha Guide

Having gathered insights from the three resources above, its time to process the information and generate the career path. The Yancha Guide discusses on the interest, helps reflect on the capabilities, and suggests what needs to be done to go ahead with a career of choice. The field of study also comes out from this discussion.
 

These discussions can be in small groups or in a one-on-one format.

Resource 5 – Yancha Career Guidance Booklet

Career is not a destination, it’s a journey. The way an individual does in a career goes beyond the qualifications. The Yancha Career Guidance Booklet provides insights on aspects that ensures success in career, beyond choosing one.

 

Resource 6 – Career Choice Session

A large group interactive and informative session with Parents and Students focusing on the following aspects:

• Changed reality in the career roadmap
• Identifying the Child’s Capabilities and Interests
• Aligning with Opportunities
• Differentiating between Career and Hobby
• Behavioural Development – a continuous process
• Understanding the Yancha Teens four step Process – Understand – Discuss – Create – Evolve

This can be done in person or in a virtual mode.

These six resources will ensure that a student will be able to:

• Identify the enablers which will help achieve career goals
• Define the self-limiting beliefs and doaway with the roadblocks
• Assess own interests and capabilities
• Seek out opportunities that really match with interests and capabilities, rather than misled aspirations
• Define a path to walk on in the journey of career and the milestones on the path to walk
• List the subjects to choose for further study
• Walk on the career path with confidence and achieve the milestones defined
